Inclined Transport
The four
cable railways, Chiaia, Montesanto, Centrale and Mergellina, play an essential
role in the Naples
rail transport system.For over
one hundred years, cable transport has linked the central city to the hill
zone, as a result of the particular inclined nature of the city.Overall,
the four cable railways service 16 stations and transport approximately sixty
thousand passengers a day.
The total
number of cable trains per day in Naples
is 702, subdivided as follows: 202 on the Centrale, 202 on the Chiaia, 178 on
the Montesanto, and 128 on the Mergellina.
