The four cable railways, Chiaia, Montesanto, Centrale and Mergellina, play an essential role in the Naples rail transport system.For over one hundred years, cable transport has linked the central city to the hill zone, as a result of the particular inclined nature of the city.Overall, the four cable railways service 16 stations and transport approximately sixty thousand passengers a day.
